Biography
Chief Executive Officer and chairman of Variety Wholesalers, Inc., a family-owned Fortune500 business that is one of the largest, privately-owned companies in the U.S., operating over 450 stores in 15 states.
Serves as chairman and president of the John William Pope Foundation that supports organizations that foster the Foundation’s ideals of economic freedom and individual liberty, the cornerstones of a prosperous society. Previously served as special counsel to North Carolina Governor James G. Martin.
Elected to and served four terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives (1989-1992, 1999-2002).
Member of the board of directors of the Institute of Humane Studies at George Mason University and the Atlas Economic Research Foundation.
Serves on the advisory board of the Thomas Roe Institute, part of the Heritage Foundation.
