Biography

Retired chairman and CEO of BB&T Corporation, the 10th largest financial services holding company in the U.S. As CEO, grew BB&T from $4.5 billion to $152 billion in assets.

Harvard Business Review named Allison one of the top 100 most successful CEO's in the world.

Currently serves on the faculty of Wake Forest University School of Business as Distinguished Professor of Practice.

Began his service with BB&T in 1971 and managed a wide variety of responsibilities throughout the bank, rising to president in 1987 and elected chairman and CEO in 1989.

Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in business administration. Earned a master's degree in management from Duke University.

Also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

Inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame. Received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Banker in 2009. Received the Corning Award for Distinguished Leadership.
